More Independence by the Energy Transition

Independence and a low ecological footprint - more and more home builders want to emancipate themselves from conventional power generation, which is also generated by caloric power plants.

Bernhard Schwaderer has been playing with the idea of making his contribution to the preservation of the environment for quite some time. The way was clear for him: The sun should provide the electricity. The Stuttgart region, where Schwader's estate is located, is known for its particularly long and intense sunshine - after all, wine also grows in the region. Space for a photovoltaic system was available on the roof of the house and on the shed. His circle of acquaintances already uses a photovoltaic system with battery storage. In addition to "green" electricity generation from renewable sources, his independence is very important to him. It lies thereby in the trend - in the last years autarkic houses moved ever more into the focus.

Batteries are subsidized by the state

For him, the decisive impetus for putting the idea into practice was the promotion of grid-connected photovoltaic battery storage systems in the state of Baden-Württemberg. In this way, the southwestern state encourages homeowners to produce their own electricity. This measure is intended to reduce greenhouse gases by 90 percent by 2050 compared to 1990 levels in order to promote climate protection. This should also halve energy consumption in the federal state and 80 percent of the remaining demand for energy should be covered by renewable sources.

In order to benefit from this support, a newly constructed photovoltaic system must be equipped with a battery. The capacity of the battery must be slightly lower than the capacity of the photovoltaic system. The reason for this is that the legislator also wants to promote the feeding of electricity into the public grid.

Bernhard Schwaderer comments: "For a long time, it was too expensive to purchase electricity storage systems in conjunction with solar systems. That's why I observed developments on the market and followed the price trend. Now we have reached a point where batteries offer good value for money. The promotion of the country was an additional motivation". Schwaderer opted for the LG Chem RESU6.5. The energy storage unit has a capacity of 6.5 kWh and uses LG Chem's advanced 'Lamination & Stacking' technology, which keeps the structure of the battery stable even with frequent charging and discharging.

Cheaper energy by self-supply

Schwaderer is his own energy supplier with his photovoltaic system, which consists of 31 Heckert solar modules with a total area of 51.77 square meters. In his house, which measures just over 200 square meters, a tenant lives in his own granny flat in addition to his family. The tenant obtains his energy directly from Schwaderer, who thus takes the place of the energy supplier and settles the electricity bill with his tenant. Since it does not exceed the peak output of 10 kilowatts, the small business regulation applies to it. In addition, he can claim the deduction of input tax. While getting free energy, the state is sponsoring that as well.

Independence is important

In addition to ecological production, independence is important to the owner of the house. "With a photovoltaic system and the RESU6.5, I can get by for days without having to purchase electricity from outside. That makes me a bit proud," Schwaderer emphasizes. When asked about his experiences with RESU6.5, Schwaderer answers that he is fully satisfied. The battery gives him a substantial independence from the power grid and the amount of energy that the photovoltaic system produces too much is simply fed into the public power grid. Thus, the electricity customer becomes the electricity seller.

At an information event organised by the energy supplier Süwag, Schwaderer got to know the supplier of solar and energy systems Solmey. This recommended him to the RESU6.5 due to previous good experiences. The construction of the complete system then proceeded quite quickly. The Solmey fitters only needed two days to professionally install both the photovoltaic system and the battery. Both were installed at the same time and the battery found its place in the garage of the property - with its high-quality design it doesn't have to hide, and short-term humidity doesn't bother it.

Quality convinces

Dietmar Meyer, Managing Director of Solmey, the integrator for Photovoltaics, Solar and LED , explains why LG Chem's RESU product lineup is particularly suitable for his customers. "The highest self-sufficient energy supply can only be achieved with efficient energy storage systems. With its RESU lineup, LG Chem has presented a conclusive concept that is characterized by simple handling and high reliability," emphasizes Meyer. "In addition, RESU energy storage units , in this case the RESU 6.5, are easy to install. You install it, turn it on and it just runs. So far, we haven't got any single complaint about RESU batteries" Meyer is already looking forward to the new RESU13. Due to its backup power capability, the RESU13 can also be used as an energy resource in the event of power failures. Meyer also welcomes the availability of high-voltage batteries including RESU7H and RESU10H that LG Chem has been offering since 2017.

Meyer also privately uses a LG Chem RESU 6.5 and is therefore happy to offer his customers RESU energy storage units.. With his Battery, he has calculated a payback period of ten years after installation for his own photovoltaic system. The battery's lifespan of 20 years is quite good due to the cell technology, which offers a high number of charging cycles. After ten years of use, the manufacturer still guarantees 80 percent capacity - and that with a lithium-ion battery. Based on his own experience, he is therefore happy to offer his customers RESU energy storage systems.

Meyer has also had good experience with LG Chem as a partner. LG Chem organizes dealer training courses on a regular basis, for example at Intersolar in Munich, which is a must for the photovoltaic industry. LG Chem is also a popular trading partner due to its good dealer support.

Good offering – good service

Finally, LG Chem offers a reliable power supply for those who want to determine their energy supply autonomously and is at the same time a reliable partner of the trade.
