ELECTRICAL SAFETY RECALL

ELECTRICAL SAFETY RECALL Updated: November 2022 What is the issue? LG Energy Solution Australia is undertaking a safety recall for certain residential energy storage system batteries (ESS Home Batteries) equipped with cells manufactured between 29 March 2017 and 13 September 2018 (Replacement Recall). LG Energy Solution Australia first announced the safety recall on 24 February 2021 and later expanded the recall in August 2021 to include additional models. A recall notice is available on the Product Safety Australia website [here] Update (November 2022) - Additional batteries subject to recall: A new safety recall (Diagnostic Software Recall) was recently notified to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission by LG Energy Solution Australia which covers ESS Home Batteries equipped with cells manufactured between 21 January 2016 to 28 March 2017, or between 14 September 2018 to 30 June 2019 (PRA2022/19550). If you have not already had your unit replaced or refunded as part of the Replacement Recall, you should check your product again to see if your unit is subject to the Diagnostic Software Recall. The affected ESS Home Batteries may overheat and catch fire and cause injury or death and/or damage to property. Incidents have occurred and caused damage to property. Click here to watch a video about how to check the serial number of your "RESU" battery To check whether your battery is affected by either the Replacement or Diagnostic Software Recall, please enter your battery's serial number in the serial number check page What products are affected? If you happen to have the internal LG-branded battery serial number already available, you can also check whether your battery is affected by entering your battery's serial number in the serial number check page here I checked my serial number and my battery is subject to the Replacement Recall What should I do? • If your battery is affected, you should immediately switch off your battery storage system and keep it switched off to minimise the risk of fire. • To switch off the battery storage systems safely, you should refer to the instructions for the battery storage system or contact the installer or LGESAU for advice. What happens next? • LG Energy Solution Australia will replace affected ESS Home Batteries in the coming months as replacement units become available. This replacement will be free of charge (including technician time). LG Energy Solution Australia can advise whether a replacement battery is currently available in stock (or when one will be available). • If you do not wish to wait for a replacement, LG Energy Solution Australia will provide you a full refund of your battery and remove the battery from your premises. • Until a replacement is available, LG Energy Solution Australia is also offering to reduce the maximum state of charge of the battery to 75% to reduce the risk of fire until the batteries are replaced or removed. • This charge reduction is only a short-term remedial measure. • This charge reduction cannot be applied to RESU10H Type-C batteries, which must be switched off until replacement or removal. • LG Energy Solution Australia can apply this charge reduction remotely where possible and will organise site visits for charge reductions to batteries that cannot be accessed remotely. • LG Energy Solution Australia is offering compensation to consumers to offset any increases to electricity bills following switch-off or charge reduction of affected batteries. I checked my serial number and my battery is subject to the Diagnostic Software Recall LG Energy Solution Australia will be installing diagnostic software in affected batteries that is intended to identify and shut down batteries at risk of overheating. LG Energy Solution Australia will send further information to affected consumers who receive the diagnostic software. LG Energy Solution Australia will replace all batteries shut down by the software for free. LG Energy Solution Australia will arrange for remote software updates to affected batteries that are online (where possible), between October 2022 and Quarter 2 of 2023. The timing of remote installation of the software from the fourth quarter of 2022 will vary, and also depends on the brand of inverter you have. LG Energy Solution Australia will organise site visits for batteries that cannot be accessed remotely (which are planned to commence in stages from April 2023) so that the software can be installed by a technician at no charge. What should I do? • Please contact us to urgently check if your battery can only be updated by site visit, and if so to arrange the software update, or if you have any other questions. • If your battery is affected by the Diagnostic Software Recall, please keep your battery powered on and connected online so that, where possible, LG Energy Solution may deliver the software update to your battery remotely. What happens next? • If your battery switches off, please contact LGESAU for further instructions (and to arrange a replacement unit or refund). Do not attempt to turn the battery back on. For more information, please visit https://www.lgensol.com. How to identify the serial number of your RESU battery: The following illustration shows how the unique serial number appears on a sample ESS RESU Home Battery. Serial numbers begin with "R" or "E" and are 22 or 23 characters (a mix of letters and numbers). The first row depicts the model number and the second row starts with the date of manufacture, ending with unique number for that model. To see the example below, the unique serial number is "R15563P3SSEG11610317001"; however it can be broken down to "R15563P3SSEG1" as the model number, "161031" as the manufacture date (in YY MM DD order), and "7001" as the unique lot number. For RESU 7H and RESU10H (Type C, Type R and Type R (Secondary)). There are two methods to check the serial number which appears in two places. 1. Underneath the battery, adjacent to the cable entry. By using a smartphone, you can photograph this label. You could try selfie mode. Please note that with this method, it may not be possible to capture the QR code, meaning you need to transcribe the serial number manually. 2. Behind the access cover at the bottom right of the battery. To access: (i) Open the two latches by pressing the child-proof tab with your thumb before unlatching. (ii) Remove the access cover by opening slightly (2-10 degrees) and lifting off. Be sure to lift the door off - it is not hinged. (iii) You can then see the serial number label on a clear plastic cover. You can either photograph and transcribe it manually or, if your smart-phone has QR capture, direct it at the QR code to capture as text. (iv) Reattach the cover by holding in place and re-latching. For RESU3.3, RESU6.5, RESU13 and RESU10 It is not always possible for customers to directly determine the serial number, due to its location underneath battery cables, but you may attempt before turning to alternatives. To determine the serial number directly: i. Look to the Right-Hand side of the battery. ii. You may see the serial number label partially obscured by battery cables and/or conduit. You can either photograph and transcribe it manually or, if your smart-phone has QR capture, direct it at the QR code to capture as text. Do NOT attempt to dismantle the battery or cabling for easier access to the serial number. Instead, use an alternative option. Alternative options are: 1. Check your installer-provided documentation to see if your installer included your battery serial number. 2. Contacting your installer to check if they recorded your battery serial number in their internal records. 3. Arranging a site visit for your installer or a qualified electrician to check your serial number. Please ask them to first contact LG Energy Solution Australia's product department at productau@lgensol.com or on 1300 677 273 prior to their visit so we can provide technical guidance and arrange payment for their time. 4. Contacting LG Energy Solution Australia's product department to arrange an inspection and (if applicable) a replacement free of charge. For further information, please contact LG Energy Solution Australia's product department by phone on 1300 677 273 or email at productau@lgensol.com.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding LG Energy Solution's Battery Recall and Replacement Program

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding LG Energy Solution's Battery Recall and Replacement Program Q1: Why is LG Energy Solution replacing my battery? A: In cooperation with the global product safety authorities responsible for product recalls, LG Energy Solution (LG ES) recently announced a voluntary recall and free replacement program for certain residential energy storage system batteries. The recalled home batteries can overheat, posing a risk of fire and emission of harmful smoke. LG ES is undertaking this voluntary action as part of its commitment to product safety and to providing the highest quality and service to its customers. Q2: Should customers turn off the batteries? What should customers do until the batteries are replaced? A: No action is required by customers whose batteries are connected online, because LG ES has remotely deployed modifications to impacted batteries to reduce the risk of overheating. Customers whose batteries are offline should call LG ES or their distributor/installer for further instructions. Out of an abundance of caution, if a customer plans to leave home for an extended period of time, such as a vacation, LG ES recommends turning off the system to avoid leaving the home battery in a fully charged condition. Q3: Will LG ES replace affected units with new batteries? A: Yes, LG ES will replace the affected batteries with newly manufactured batteries that incorporate state-of-the-art safety features that were designed to prevent overheating that might lead to fires and/or emission of harmful smoke. Q4: Please explain the replacement process. A: The program will begin in October 2021. LG ES will contact the original installers for the batteries to arrange for that installer to perform the replacement service work. If for any reason the original installer is not able to perform the work, LG ES will make alternative arrangements. LG ES has already started contacting the owners of the batteries with instructions, but battery owners, installers and distributors who would like additional information should call LG ES' recall help line listed at the end of the FAQ. LG ES will work to arrange a replacement schedule that is convenient for you. However, please understand that despite the company's best efforts, there may be some delays, due to factors that are outside our control, such as the severe global shortage of semiconductors and other components of residential energy storage systems. As stated above, if you own an "offline" battery, please contact LG ES as soon as possible to provide the company with your specific location and battery information to start the process as soon as possible. Q5: Will LG ES extend the existing Warranty period for the product as part of its replacement program? A: Yes, all replaced remotely modified batteries will come with a new ten (10) year warranty period, starting from the date of installation. Call your distributor/installer for further details. 1.
