PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL
PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL
LG Energy Solution Michigan, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily undertaking two separate recalls of RESU10H lithium-ion storage batteries that were sold with certain Residential Energy Storage Systems.
First, as announced in December 2020 and expanded in August 2021, LG Energy Solution is replacing ESS Home Batteries that were manufactured during a certain time period. A recall notice is available on the CPSC website: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2021/LG-Energy-Solution-Michigan-Recalls-Home-Energy-Storage-Batteries-Due-to-Fire-Hazard-0
Second, as announced in October 2022, LG Energy Solution is voluntarily updating the diagnostic software for a separate range of ESS Home Batteries manufactured during other time periods. A recall notice is available on the CPSC website: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2023/LG-Energy-Solution-Michigan-Recalls-Home-Energy-Storage-Batteries-Due-to-Fire-Hazard-Recall-Alert
The affected ESS Home Batteries can overheat in rare circumstances, posing a risk of fire and emission of harmful smoke. LG Energy Solution has received reports of thermal events in the United States causing property damage and one injury. LG Energy Solution is undertaking this voluntary action as part of its commitment to product safety and customer service.
Please check your battery's serial number (see illustrations below for location) and enter it here to check whether your battery is affected by either the First or Second Recall:

Recalled RESU 10H ESS Home Battery
What products are affected?
ESS Home Batteries are marked with a unique serial number, which can be used to identify batteries affected by the recalls.
The ESS Home Batteries, model number RESU10H, were sold by various distributors of solar energy storage systems (including Sunrun, CED, Baywa, Krannich, AEE Solar, Independent Electric Supply, and Inter Island Solar Supply) from March 2017 through March 2020.
How do I know if I have an affected product?
You will need to identify the serial number of your ESS Home Battery.
Please use the guidance in the illustrations below to locate the serial number. Contact LG Energy Solution if you need assistance by phone at 888-737-8104 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at RESUservice@lgensol.com.
The ESS Home Battery's unique serial number, which is located behind the access door at the bottom right of the unit, will determine if that battery is affected. The following illustration shows how the unique serial number appears. Serial numbers begin with "R" and are 23 characters (a mix of letters and numbers). In the example below, the unique serial number is "R15563P3SSEG11610317001."
To check whether your battery is affected by either recall, please enter your battery's serial number here:

I checked my serial number, and my battery is subject to the First Recall and requires replacement. What are the next steps?
LG Energy Solution is replacing affected ESS Home Batteries free of charge as replacement units become available. LG Energy Solution, its distributors, and its installers are attempting to contact owners directly, but consumers with recalled batteries may also contact LG Energy Solution to schedule a free replacement.
LG Energy Solution has arranged for modifications to recalled batteries that are connected online to reduce the risk of overheating until they can be replaced with new batteries.
I checked my serial number, and my battery is subject to the Second Recall and requires a diagnostic software update. What are the next steps?
If your unit is connected online, and if you have agreed to remote updates to your inverters, LG Energy Solution will arrange the diagnostic software updates remotely. Please keep your battery powered on and connected online so that LGES may deliver the software update to your battery remotely.
The diagnostic software updates are designed to monitor the recalled battery cells and shut down the battery if a potential risk of overheating is detected. If your battery shuts down, please contact LG Energy Solution for further instructions. Do not attempt to turn the battery on again.
If your ESS Home Battery is not connected online, please contact LG Energy Solution immediately by phone at 888-737-8104 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at RESUservice@lgensol.com, to schedule a manual software update. LG Energy Solution, its distributors, and its installers are also attempting to contact owners directly if their units are not connected online to arrange for a technician visit to manually update the diagnostic software.
