Recall Update: LG Energy Solution Announces Expansion of Existing Free Replacement Program Due to Risk of Fire in Certain Energy Storage System (ESS) Home Batteries
The voluntary recall and free replacement program covers ESS Home Batteries containing cells manufactured between April 2017 and September 2018, and expands existing replacement programs underway in certain markets (please refer to https://www.lgessbattery.com/us/home-battery/news-view.lg?blcSn=1233&devonTargetRow=1&devonOrderBy=&searchType=all&searchKey= for the existing replacement program underway). LG Energy Solution will cover the costs related to this replacement program.
LG Energy Solution has announced the recall and free replacement program following reports from the field about overheating incidents linked to certain ESS Home Batteries. LG Energy Solution will undertake inspections and replacement of the potentially affected ESS Home Batteries and will also implement safety-enhancing upgrades for the battery management and control software. In conducting this voluntary replacement program, LG Energy Solution is fully cooperating with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Replacement Scope and Details
LG Energy Solution's replacement program will provide free replacement batteries which incorporate manufacturing process improvements that are designed to further enhance the safety of ESS Home Batteries. LG Energy Solution, in cooperation with its partners, will contact potentially affected customers to arrange for the replacement, and all proposed safety measures will take place following such consultation with customers.
Where possible and before the replacement is completed, LG Energy Solution will also implement remote modifications to the potentially affected ESS Home Batteries to reduce the potential for overheating until replacement is complete. In addition, LG Energy Solution will update the battery diagnostic and control software for all replacement batteries. Field inspections will also be undertaken to monitor and minimize the potential for further incidents.
Owners of potentially affected ESS Home Batteries will be contacted directly. In order to determine whether your ESS Home Battery is within the scope of the free replacement program, please visit https://www.lgessbattery.com/us/home-battery/checkSN.lg and search for your product's Serial Number. If your Serial Number is eligible for replacement, please contact the relevant LG Energy Solution Customer Care Centre (see below for regional contact details) or your ESS Home Battery installer to arrange for an inspection and replacement of your ESS Home Battery. Instructions on how to find your product's Serial Number can be found in "Appendix A" below.

For ESS Home Battery model RESU10H:
The serial number label is located behind the access door of the ESS Home Battery.

By executing the actions necessary to complete the removal and repackaging of the recalled batteries per the instructions of LGES, you acknowledge that you (1) are acting as an agent of LGES for this limited purpose; (2) have been provided with Special Permit DOT-SP 21138 (First Revision) governing the performance of the recall activities; (3) have received and reviewed LGES' training materials and instructions on performing these duties; and (4) are following LGES' training and instructions consistent with the requirements of the Special Permit.
